Lee Sung-mi
Lee Sung-mi (Hangul: 이성미, born 1977) is a Korean artist. She uses found everyday materials such as glass, tape, and other office supplies to create sculptures and give new meaning to the otherwise discarded materials. Her artworks are a visual diary, an inspiration from the challenges she has faced as a fifteen year old independent immigrant to the United States. The difficulties of language barriers, cultural differences, and a loss sense of belonging in either country have led the artist express herself through her artworks. The artist describes her creative process as a kind of ritual—a mediation and therapeutic experience that instills self-understanding and cultivation. The repetitive act of piecing together broken material is symbolic of the artist resolving the conflicts of her past, and her use of translucent glass and resin material represents transformation in relation to her changing environment. ==External links==
